Abercegir is a small rural Welsh village just 4 miles east of the popular market town of Machynlleth. It’s quiet, peaceful and surrounded by glorious rolling hills. It’s about 20 miles from Aberystwyth, 15 miles from Aberdyfi, 81 miles from Cardiff and 172 miles from London. Machynlleth, or ‘Mach’ as it’s called locally, is known as the Ancient Capital of Wales.
There’s lots of important Welsh history in Mach dating back to 1400s when Owain Glyndwyr was crowned Prince of Wales on the site of Parliament House, now a Grade 1 listed National Heritage Centre which you can visit.
Mach which is known for its quirky mix of arts and crafts, antiques, galleries, shops, cafes, takeaways and pubs. You won’t find McDonalds or Starbucks here! And there’s a very popular market every Wednesday – a tradition launched by royal charter, it’s been going since 1291.
